Application Process and Timelines

Non-Indian nationals (including persons with OCI or PIO cards) are eligible to apply for admission to graduate programs as foreign candidates. However, candidates who have obtained their qualifying degree from an Institute/University in India will have to meet additional requirements of qualifying national exams (GATE, JAM etc).

Before applying candidates should check that they meet the eligibility criterion

The application requires that candidates

  1. provide a statement/self-declaration of their proficiency in English.
  2. provide names of two referees who can provide recommendation letters. The referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s overall aptitude, proficiency in chosen field, potential for research and independent thinking and proficiency in oral and written English.

In addition candidates should, wherever possible, provide

  1. scores in Indian examinations like GATE, CSIR/UGC-NET, DST INSPIRE etc. and International examinations like GRE, GMAT etc.
  2. scores in English language proficiency tests, such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, Cambridge English Examination etc.

Candidates with a strong academic record will be invited for an interview with a committee comprising faculty members of the relevant discipline. Candidates who perform well in the interview will be offered admission.
