IITD- NZC 2023 Fellowship Application
The New Zealand Centre at IIT Delhi is a unique partnership between one of India’s most prestigious universities, academics and researchers at all eight New Zealand universities. It is supported by Universities New Zealand and Education New Zealand to promote the study of New Zealand in India and contributes to the strengthening of the India-New Zealand relationship.

The New Zealand Advisory Board of the New Zealand Centre at IIT Delhi is calling for applications for the position of Visiting Fellow. The fellowship is tenable in IIT Delhi and any one of the eight New Zealand universities. The Centre’s Visiting Fellowship is available to permanent faculty members of IIT Delhi and permanent or fixed-term academic staff of the eight New Zealand universities. The purpose of the fellowship is to foster and sustain research collaboration.
The Fellow must be based at an academic department of the IIT Delhi/one of the NZ universities.
The proposed activities may include:
– delivering a seminar/workshop in their host department
– writing joint extramural research proposals
– discussing/visiting Industry partner for joint collaborative activities
– raising the Centre’s profile amongst in their parent and host institute
– exploring with IITD Dean International and the Advisory Board in New Zealand, how relations can grow between their host department and the Centre
– mention their Centre affiliation in any interviews they undertake
– acknowledging their award in any research the Fellowship benefits
– publicising their Centre experience in their home institution on their return
– providing a short report on their activities and experiences to the Advisory Board on completion of the Fellowship.
Up to six successful applications viz., two (2) from IIT Delhi and four (4) from NZ Universities, will be supported through the fellowship program. Funding will be jointly provided by NZ University and IITD to their respective faculty members.
There are two categories of Fellowship – (1) Established Relationship and (2) Emerging Relationship, are available:

Faculty members may apply to either of the categories. For both categories, it is essential that candidates have established connections or networks in the host department at IIT Delhi or the host department in one of the NZ universities. The Fellow will be supported during their Fellowship by the applicant’s university or visiting departments. The visiting department will also advise the Fellow of on-campus accommodation options and visa requirements (if required).
Established Relationship Fellowships: Candidates with established research collaborations from the NZ University-IITD joint seed grant of Call-2022 or have a joint extramural research grant are eligible to apply. Candidates are expected to have a plan for writing joint extramural research grants and strengthening their collaboration.
Emerging Relationship Fellowships: Candidates who do not have already established connections or networks at IIT Delhi or one of the NZ universities must arrange for an invitation from a relevant academic department at the host university to support their visit. In addition, they must demonstrate their capacity to use their fellowship to create new research relationships and to deliver the required fellowship outputs listed above. Emerging Fellowship candidates must demonstrate an equivalent track record of effective academic engagement with their academic partners.
The submitted proposals will be reviewed by a committee of faculty members with diverse disciplinary backgrounds. Reviewers will consider the extent to which an applicant’s program participation will advance the proposed research/ enhance professional development/ further collaboration with the partner institution.
Applicants must complete the form below and send a CV of no more than five pages and a supporting letter or email from their host department at IIT Delhi or one of the eight NZ universities to the Centre administrators by 4 pm (IST), Monday, 6th November 2023.
All completed applications from New Zealand academics should be submitted by email to Ms. Deepa Chaturvedi, Secretary to the Centre’s New Zealand Advisory Board, at dt.chaturvedi@auckland.ac.nz and from IIT Delhi academics should be submitted to International Office intloff@admin.iitd.ac.in by email by 4 pm (IST), Monday, 6th November 2023.

Applicants need to describe how their proposed fellowship will contribute to the ongoing development of relationships with IIT Delhi/NZ University and between India and New Zealand more generally.
The Fellowship can be taken during the year 2024, and a report must be submitted at the end of the Fellowship.
Applicants are responsible for obtaining any ethics approval required from their own institution prior to taking up the fellowship.
Applicants must comply with existing leave rules of their parent institutions.
The results will be communicated to the applicant in the 1st Week of December 2023.
