Strengthening ties : Sri Lankan Leaders at IIT Delhi

New Delhi, May 30, 2025 – The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) was a buzz with diplomatic energy as it hosted a 24-member delegation of Sri Lankan Members of Parliament (MPs). The visit, part of a Capacity Building Programme organized by India’s Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE), was led by His Excellency Dr. Rizvie Salih, Deputy Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament.

The day was filled with insightful discussions, cultural exchanges, and a shared vision for stronger India-Sri Lanka ties.

The delegation was warmly received by Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, who set the tone for the discussions. Alongside Dr. Salih, they explored ways to deepen collaboration in technology, governance, and education.

A highlight of the visit was Prof. Anil Verma’s (Dean of International Relations) engaging talk on वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम् (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam)—the ancient Indian philosophy that celebrates global unity.

“Education and dialogue are the bridges that connect nations,” said Prof. Verma, inviting Sri Lankan universities to collaborate more closely with Indian institutions. The MPs nodded in agreement, with many expressing interest in student exchange programmes and joint research initiatives.

The delegation then toured the Research & Innovation Park, where they met young entrepreneurs and startups.

As the visit concluded, both sides expressed optimism about future collaborations. Dr. Salih thanked IIT Delhi for its hospitality, saying, “This is just the beginning. Together, we can achieve so much more.”
