Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is one of Twenty Three IITs created to be Centres of Excellence for training, research and development in science, engineering and technology in India. Established as College of Engineering in 1961, the Institute was later declared as an “Institution of National Importance” under the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963 and renamed โIndian Institute of Technology Delhiโ. In 2018 it was one of the first three public Universities in India to be accorded the status of an “Institute of Eminence” by the Government of India.
IIT Delhi is fully residential and most of its 11,000 students, 550 faculty members and administrative staff reside on its 320-acre campus which is a spectacle of harmony in architecture and natural beauty. The campus also offers amenities like a Hospital, Shopping, Banking, Post Office, Stadium, Playing Fields, restaurants etc. Situated in Hauz Khas in South Delhi, the campus is well connected to the major city centres by open and wide roads and is served by two lines of the Delhi metro which provides safe, convenient and quick transportation across Delhi.
